Ujjwal Bharat initiative celebrated

ITANAGAR, Jul 29: The weeklong celebration of ‘Ujjwal Bharat, Ujjwal Bhavishya, Power@ 2047’, a Central government initiative launched as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav from July 25 to 31 next, was celebrated in many parts of the state on Friday.

The events are being organized by the Ministry of Power in collaboration with the government of Arunachal Pradesh and nodal agencies.

In Lungla, the Bijli Mahotsav was celebrated at the Zomkhang hall here.

Lungla zilla parishad member Thutan Gombu said that Ujjwal Bharat, Ujjwal Bhavishya event is an attempt to make India energy independent by 2047.

He said our state has achieved new heights as all villages have been connected by electricity.

Gombu requested people to use energy judiciously and clear their dues in time.

Lungla additional deputy commissioner Tashi Dhondup said that many border villages have been electrified in the last few years.

We cannot imagine a normal life in this modern world without electricity, he said and appealed to students to work towards making India an energy surplus country.

Earlier, nodal officer for Bijli Mahotsav Susanta Das highlighted the aims and objectives of the programme.

Students of Melongkhar government residential school presented a skit on energy conservation and its benefits.

In Sagalee, former chief minister Nabam Tuki said that Arunachal with a potential to generate 5800 Mw hydropower can be the powerhouse of the country.

With the conventional energy sources like coal and other petroleum products being depleted with the increase in the demand, tapping alternate energy sources like hydro, solar and wind will be inevitable, Tuki said.

“Our engineers will have to think out of the box, plan strategically to harness the renewable sources of energy and make our state energy sufficient,” he added.

He suggested allocating more funds towards upgradation, renovation and maintenance of the already existing infrastructures of the Power department.

Papum Pare deputy commissioner Sachin Rana highlighted the achievements of the country in the Power sector. He also emphasized the need to explore renewable sources of energy and develop strategies to slowly but steadily make the paradigm shift to renewable sources of energy.

He also stressed on the importance of streamlining power consumption and sensitizing the people at the grass root level of effective power conservation.

Earlier, project officer Ajin Nabam Hina briefed about the Bijli Mahotsav.

He informed that the Mahotsav aims to highlight the key achievements in the Power sector and improve the coordination and collaboration between the state and the Central government to make India an energy sufficient country.

The day was marked by screening of short films on power and electrification, nukkad nataks themed, ‘How energy transformed human lives’ and ‘Energy conservation’ by students of Sagalee government higher secondary school. (DIPROs)
